About this pattern
Update / correction: A small stitch count error in the body closing section has been corrected. For the round 10: It should say 11 sts + k2tog, and then 12 sts around. The file has now been updated — thank you so much for your patience!
Pocket Seagull is a tiny, quick and very satisfying knitting project - perfect for yarn scraps, tired minds and days when you just need to make something small and finished by the end of the evening.
This is a simple free knitting pattern for a tiny knitted bird that can become a keychain, bag charm, little desk companion, tiny gift, soft pocket friend or a small worry buddy to hold when the world feels overwhelming.
The seagull is knitted in a small size and uses only a tiny amount of yarn. You can make it in classic seagull colours - white, grey and yellow - or go completely wild. This pattern does not require perfection.
This project is great for knitters who enjoy: tiny knitted toys, quick one-evening projects, stash busters, scrap yarn projects, small birds, keychains, bag charms, knitted miniatures, knitted amigurumi-style toys and simple patterns with room for personal touches.
The pattern includes:
instructions for a tiny knitted seagull, a simple construction using Judy’s Magic Cast On, shaping for the body and head, closing the body with a 3-needle bind off, instructions for the beak, legs, eyes and wings, freedom to customize colours, size and finishing details.
Skill level: beginner friendly, although it helps if you already know the basics of knitting in the round, increasing and decreasing.
You will need:
a small amount of yarn in 2–3 colours, DPNs or circular needles for magic loop, tapestry needle, a little stuffing, optional keyring, clasp, beads or beans if you want to make it slightly weighted.
This is a true stash buster knitting pattern — perfect for leftover yarn, tiny scraps, sample yarns, odd bits from bigger projects and all those little balls waiting in the maybe someday box.
