About this pattern
Our free crochet pattern for LA County Yarn Crawl 2026!
Claudette is a cross body pouch worked in DK weight yarn (or fingering held double) that is perfect for visits to festivals, faires, amusement parks, or even everyday use! This project is a great way to use up leftover scraps of hand dyed yarn for a contrast that shines through spaces in the main color. Claudette is worked in one piece from the bottom up, in a stitch pattern that is easy and meditative once you get through the first few rounds. The cross body strap is made of a central chain with two rows of single crochet on either side. Both of these rows/rounds are also part of the top border of the bag opening. Feel free to add a closure at the end, such as a button loop or a zipper.
Skill Level: Intermediate - Chain, Single Crochet, Double Crochet, Slip Stitch, Joining chains to work in the round, Managing multiple balls of yarn at once, reading stitches, seaming, weaving in or securing many ends.
Yarn: 2 balls of Sandnes Garn - Line (53% Cotton, 33% Viskose, 14% Linen; 110 meters / 120 yards; 50g) and 3 Skeins Woolly Warbler - Woolly Nestlings. (Can use any DK weight yarn held single, or Fingering weight yarn held double.)
Colors used in sample: (MC) Line in Spring Green, held single - 75 grams = 165 meters / 180 yards. (CCs) 3 colors of Nestlings in Indigo Bunting (blue), Gallah (purple), and Costa’s Hummingbird (orange), all held double - 14 grams = 64 yards / 59 meters. All CCs total 192 yards / 177 meters of Fingering weight yarn held double. For DK weight yarn held single, 110 yards / 100 meters should be enough unless you are working a looser gauge than recommended.
Notions: Darning needle, scissors, crochet stitch markers. Construction: Worked round by round.
Hook size: E / 3.5mm
Gauge per 4x4” / 10x10cm : STS - 5 MC clusters, and 5 CC single crochets RNDS - 9 MC, rounds and 8 CC rounds
